Junior Junkanoo Rules & Regulations
  1. All Government and Private Schools are eligible to participate in the parade.
  2. Participants must be enrolled in the participating school to be a part of the group. Only school children enrolled at a participating school may participate and only do so for each school.
  3. 40% crepe paper must be evident on costumes in the Primary Division and 60% in the Secondary Division, leaving the Pre-School to the use of some crepe paper and the use of any medium be it pasting, painting, sewing, crafting, etc.
  4. There are no limitations on group size.
  5. All participating schools must be registered before the deadline in order to participate. At registration the schools must submit a synopsis of their presentation in order to enter the parade route.
  6. All groups must be identified by a Lead Banner, which should correspond with names and theme listed on the registration form. The Lead Banner can have wheels.
  7. All school groups must select their own order of entry prior to the parade.
  8. Schools must not allow members of the public, former students, fans or parents to assist at any time during their performance.
  9. Lighting fires along the parade route is strictly prohibited.
  10. Design and size of costumes are left to the discretion of the coordinators. However, all costumes pieces should be able to move fluidly within the route.
  11. All costumes must be the work of children, under the supervision of school coordinators, teachers and parents. Judges will have power to inflict penalties for costumes that appear to be above the level of workmanship for the category of school.
  12. Penalties will be assessed for all infraction of the rules and regulations pertaining to the Junior Junkanoo Parade.
  13. The Penalties will be in the form of Subtraction of Points with respect to the General Rules e.g.
a. Non-registration Disqualification
b. Participation by individuals not enrolled in the school on parade 20 points per person
c. Costumes not made by school children Disqualification
d. Lighting fires along parade route Disqualification
e. Suggestive Gyrations in Dance tending to vulgarity 100 points
f. Failure to enter route on time 50 points

  1. There will be a post mortem meeting between the Junior Junkanoo Coordinators and the Ministry of Youth, Sports & Culture to present the judges score sheet and report of the parade results.
