The Department of Youth, through its annual National Summer Youth Programme has established, as a component, a grant and contribution scheme for independent camps requesting assistance.  The National Summer Youth Programme Grants and Contributions Policy, of the Department of Youth, has the following objectives:

  • To encourage the design, creation and implementation of programmes addressing the unmet needs of Bahamian Youth.
  • To strengthen the capacity of organisation’s efficiency and effectiveness in the delivery of Summer Youth Programmes.
  • To Support the ongoing development of summer programmes for the benefit of youth in The Bahamas.

The contribution and grants scheme is to be executed based on the following categories:

  1. Church
  2. Youth Groups
  3. Civic Organisation
  4. Bands
  5. Political Organisations
  6. Tutorial Institutions/Other Instructional institutions

Interested parties may make requests to the Ministry of Youth Sports and Culture to assist deferring cost of the camp.  The Department of Youth reserves the right to reject any grant proposal.


Eligibility 
  • Programmes that target Bahamian youth
  • Summer Youth Programmes with no cost attached for participation
  • Programmes that operate during the period of The Government’s National Summer Youth Programme, but programmes not operating during this period will also be considered.
  • The entity should have had an existing summer youth programme for one year or more.

Please refer to the Independent Camps Grant and Contribution Class Category to determine additional requirements for specific categories.

 

Process 
  1. Interested parties must submit a request for independent camp grant or contribution along with supporting documents to Department of Youth.  
  2. The Department of Youth will then acknowledge receipt of the request for an independent camp grant or contribution.
  3. The ministry will review the request to ensure that the applicant is compliant with the independent camp grant or contribution policy document. Note: Request submitted without the required document will not be processed.   
  4. New Camps may be required to meet with a ministry official to review the request and the objectives of the camp.
  5. Applicants will be informed of approval or non-approval in writing.  
  6. Once the grant is approved the applicant must go to the Department of Youth with Photo ID to collect the cheque.  Please note:  Camp administration must yield to at least one site visit by a Department of Youth Roaming Supervisor.
  7. A report of the use of funding granted must be submitted within one month following the completion of the camp.  Entities receiving monetary grants must also provide financial reports.

Deadline 

All requests for Independent camp grant or contribution must be submitted by May 30th annually.
