The Youth Parliament is held annually in observance of National Youth Month. The purpose of Youth Parliament is to expose Bahamian youth to parliamentary procedures as well as current issues, affecting youth development. Young persons are selected, trained and make presentations in the House of Assembly in two sessions.
Youth Parliament affords the young person the opportunity to voice their concerns, offer solutions, raise a level of consciousness in our society and bring to the fore the positive contribution made by youth to the economic, social and cultural development of the nation.
Interested individuals may apply to the Ministry of Youth Sports and Culture, Department of Youth to participate in the National Youth Parliament.
Applicants must be between the ages of 16 to 25. Persons who have previously participated in Youth Parliament are eligible to participate in any future Youth Parliament Sessions.
- Youth Parliament forms may be collected at The Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture. Alternatively, you may use the link below to download the application form.
- The applicant must fill out and submit the application form to the ministry.
- Applicants from the Family Islands may receive forms from the Island Administrator. The final decision on island representatives will be left to the Island administrator in conjunction with the Island coordinator.
- The Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture will telephone applicants from New Providence acknowledging receipt of the application and any decision made with regards to their participation.
- The Department of Youth will then inform applicants of the orientation date and the resolution that will be debated on in parliament.
- At the successful completion of the Youth Parliament programme participants will receive a certificate of participation along with invites to National function during National Youth month.
