The Youth Award of Excellence is awarded to young people who have been nominated by their respective organisations for their outstanding contributions to the life of the organisation. This award is bestowed by the government on an annual basis. Each year, The Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture requests nominations from organisations for individuals to be considered for inclusion in the National Youth Recognition Awards. All nominees must be submitted to the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture, Department of Youth for consideration.
Each island has their own Local Award Ceremony; the most distinguished young person from that event will be selected to represent the island at the National Youth Recognition Awards.
Any Bahamian young person, between the ages of 16 and 25 years, who meets the criteria outlined in the guidelines governing the nomination of candidates for the National Youth Recognition Awards, may be nominated.
- The Division of Youth will send out nomination forms to organisations in August of the current year.
- The organisation may submit only one nominee for the National Youth Recognition Awards to the Division of Youth.
- Family Island organisations may collect forms from the Family Island administrator/Island coordinator.
- The organisation must ensure the nominee meets the criteria outlined in the guidelines governing the nomination of candidates for the National Youth Recognition Awards.
- Once nominations are submitted, the Division of Youth will verify the information that was submitted.
- A Family Island organisation may submit its nominee via the Family Island Administrator/Island coordinator.
- Once final determination has been made The Division of Youth will inform the organisation in writing.
- Nominees are informed of their selection by September of the current year.
