The Bahamas Dental Council is the statutory body responsible for the regulation of the practice of dentistry, dental services and auxiliaries in The Bahamas and functions under the Bahamas Dental Act (1989).
The Council consists of 7 members. The members consist of the Chief Medical Officer ex-officio and 6 Dentists (inclusive of one dental auxiliary) appointed by the Minister of Health, under the advice of The Bahamas Dental Association. Members work together to:
- regulate the dental profession.
- regulate the performance of services by dental auxiliaries.
- establish appropriate training programmes for dental auxiliaries' services.
Monies collected from fees go toward defraying the Council’s administrative and operational costs.
