NASSAU, The Bahamas -- "As of today, March 9, there remains no suspected, reported or confirmed cases of COVID-19 in The Bahamas," said Dr. Pearl McMillian (centre), Chief Medical Officer (CMO) in the Ministry of Health during a press conference to update the public held at the ministry. We continue to monitor the evolving situation which has now shifted from new cases occurring in Mainland China toward new cases occurring in multiple countries and ongoing community spread in some countries. On 5th March the risk level for an outbreak of COVID-19 in the Caribbean was elevated to Very High, therefore key to the sub-region's preparedness and response is the ability to conduct tests for COVID-19 . Nine CARICOM member states have such capacity, one of which is The Bahamas.Dr. McMillian, said there have been no COVID 19 related deaths in the Caribbean.
